Finishing the Copenhagen Business: Why the involvement of Central and Eastern Europe is Crucial?
After the enormous success of the CEU alumni & friends reunion on 11 Dec 2009 in the UK, the Hungarian Embassy in London, in association with the Regional Environmental Center, are organizing another prestigious event on their premises on Monday, 8 February 2010! Ambassador Borbála Czakó cordially invites all alumni & friends of CEU living or travelling to the UK this February to the one-day workshop, which will address the potential role of Central and Eastern Europe in the global search for climate change solutions.
About the Workshop:
Over one hundred heads of states took part in the 15th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen. This valuable momentum demonstrates that environmental concerns – especially climate change – are high on the national agendas. Most governments realize by now that – with the support of citizens, local governments and the business sector – they need to work out a complex, long-term, flexible and win-win system to manage the immense transformation that is inevitable. Building on regional solutions, we can take real steps to build resilient communities, able and willing to become sustainable.
Though far from sustainable as yet, the Central and Eastern European region still offers valuable experience in rapid and fundamental social transition, and holds much of the EU’s natural environment capital. The workshop will explore the viable ways in which Central and Eastern Europe can be involved in the global quest for solutions of the climate problem.
